Why claims go unclaimed

The problem: airlines count on you giving up

Filing takes work. Chasing takes patience. A refusal can make it feel easier to walk away.

According to claims-industry estimates, only about 2% of eligible passengers ever collect. About two-thirds of eligible passengers never file at all.

Your flight doesn't have to be recent. EU/UK claims can reach back 3–6 years, depending on the country. Canada has a 1-year filing deadline.

Old flights still count. Check before you write yours off.

Coverage

What we can file

EU & UK

EU and UK: delays, cancellations and denied boarding

Compensation can range from €250–€600 by distance in the EU — £220–£520 in the UK — for eligible claims involving arrival delays of 3+ hours, cancellations or denied boarding.

Airlines can refuse compensation for extraordinary circumstances.

Canada

Canada: long delays within the airline's control

Eligible long delays within the airline's control — and not required for safety — can qualify for CAD 400–1,000 on large carriers under Canada's Air Passenger Protection Regulations (CAD 125–500 on small carriers).

United States

United States: denied boarding, baggage and unpaid refunds

There is no US delay compensation. Our US claims cover:

  • Denied boarding: the amount depends on how late you actually arrive — 200% of the one-way fare, capped at $1,075, for a shorter delay (1–2 hours domestic; 1–4 hours international), or 400%, capped at $2,150, for a longer one. Arrive within an hour of schedule and nothing is owed.
  • Lost or damaged baggage: international liability of about $2,000 under the Montreal Convention; US domestic liability up to $4,700.
  • Unpaid refunds: money the airline owes you but hasn't paid.

Compare the fees

The honest math

A percentage fee comes out of each passenger's payout. Our $99 filing fee applies once to the whole booking.

ServiceFee
AirHelp35% of the payout; up to 50% if it goes legal
SkycopAbout 40–44% of the payout; up to 50% if it goes legal
AirAdvisor30% of the payout, plus 20% for legal action
ClaimWing DFY$99 per booking, regardless of passenger count; court action not included

The contingency cut is charged per person.

A small solo claim? We'll point you to the packet.

On a solo €250 claim, a 35% contingency fee is €87.50 — less than our $99 DFY fee. For those travellers, we point to the $29 Claim Evidence Packet instead. You get the evidence and letters, then submit the claim yourself.

Our $99 flat fee costs less than a 35% cut on any payout over about $283.

A family booking changes the comparison.

For a booking where four passengers are each awarded €600:

  • Total payout: four passengers × €600 = €2,400.
  • 35% contingency fee: €840.
  • ClaimWing DFY fee: $99 for the booking.
€840 vs $99

The airline pays the travellers directly. We charge the filing fee and take no percentage.

Straight talk

Honest terms

No outcome guarantees

Airlines and regulators decide claims. We cannot guarantee eligibility, approval or payment. Our eligibility guarantee covers the $99 fee if our intake review finds the claim ineligible.

We are not a law firm

ClaimWing is a claims filing service. Court action is not included.

Eligible claims can still be denied

If your claim passes our intake review but is ultimately denied, the $99 fee stands. It pays for the filing work, not a promised result. The first-denial rebuttal and regulator complaint draft remain included either way.

Germany: packet available, DFY not yet offered

We do not currently offer DFY filing to residents of Germany because of a local registration rule for claims services. The $29 Claim Evidence Packet is available there.

We never touch your payout

The airline pays you directly. ClaimWing never receives, holds or deducts fees from your payout.

Questions

FAQ

Can I claim for an old flight?

Yes, an older flight may still qualify. EU/UK claims can reach back 3–6 years, depending on the country. Canada has a 1-year filing deadline. Start with the free Flight Money Check.

What if the airline says it was an extraordinary circumstance?

Airlines can refuse EU/UK compensation for extraordinary circumstances. Include the airline's explanation in your free check so we can review it. We cannot guarantee that the refusal will be overturned.

What if the airline has already refused me?

Include the refusal in your free Flight Money Check. The $29 packet includes a denial-rebuttal letter. DFY filing includes a rebuttal of the first denial and a regulator complaint draft. Court action is not included.

How long does a payout take?

Weeks to months. Airlines decide claims and payment timing, so we cannot promise a payout date or outcome. The 24-hour free-check reply and 3-business-day packet delivery are our service timelines, not airline payout timelines.

Does the $99 cover everyone on my booking?

Yes. It is one $99 fee per booking, no matter how many passengers. We do not charge a separate filing fee for each person or take a percentage of anyone's payout.

Can you help with a US flight?

Our US claims cover denied boarding, lost or damaged baggage, and refunds the airline owes but hasn't paid. There is no US delay compensation. DFY filing includes a DOT complaint draft where relevant.

Can I use ClaimWing if I live in Germany?

You can use the free Flight Money Check and buy the $29 Claim Evidence Packet. DFY filing is not yet offered to residents of Germany because of a local registration rule for claims services.

Do I get the $99 back if the claim is denied?

If our intake review finds your claim ineligible, we refund the $99 in full. If the claim is eligible but is ultimately denied, the fee stands. The first-denial rebuttal and regulator complaint draft remain included. The eligibility guarantee is not a payout guarantee.
